I love series and they change up from time to time, whether the author stopped writing, or stopped writing the one that I enjoyed. This holds true for me that I may love a series but not care to read a different series by the same author. It happens. Also sometimes I just can't grab most of the books in a series so I have to give it up. I would recommend starting at book one, even if you aren't planning on reading every single installment, reading the first sets the scene for you the reader. Some authors share the basic character set-up and personal histories, but some don't.
My favorite, go-to, must-read (!) series right now are, in no particular order---
The book covers are from Goodreads, and they represent the first book in each series.
